Elder Dragons

This picture features two Elder Dragons in Monster Hunter, the multi-elemental Alatreon and the fire-based massive dragon "end boss" of Ultimate, Dire Miralis. Hunters that get to the final tier of quests in Monster Hunter Ultimate face Dire Miralis as the sort of end boss of the on-line port. A gigantic volcanic dragon, this creature is encountered in a cove both in the water and on land. It attacks by shooting huge fireballs and chasing targets down. I tried to capture its dark color scheme which is highlighted by glowing veins of molten lava. 

Alatreon, first introduced in Monster Hunter: Tri on the Wii is what I consider to be the true "final boss" of Monster Hunter Ultimate. Complete with a few moves since Tri, Alatreon is a large winged Elder Dragon that shifts its elemental affinity which also changes its attacks. It's highly aggressive and deals high damage in many forms. You can fight Alatreon in the offline high rank missions, but the true "G-Rank" version is encountered in the on-line guild series of quests. I really like both designs of these creatures and I think they fill the role of end-game bosses of Monster Hunter well.
